Storm chasing, in a perfect world, would refer exclusively to those individuals that pursue severe weather conditions like, for example, Helen Hunt in Twister.

Unfortunately, this post is not devoted to weather phenomena but to the repercussions of a bad storm (like the one that hit Maryland on July 25th) and untrustworthy contractors.

Across the country consumers are being warned against unscrupulous contractors who appear after a bad storm to offer repair services. Across the country media and public officials are warning consumers about storm chasing contractors who capitalize on poor weather, scam individuals, and make unreliable and unfit repairs.

Recovering your Home from This Past Winter

All of our homes took a beating this past winter. If your home wasn’t previously prepared, the heavy snow that was piled for weeks and nature’s melting and refreezing cycle could have caused severe damage to your home. We recommend checking your roof, windows, siding, and doors for any damage. One thing to look out for is your roof. The roof, like most windows and doors, is designed to shed water. When ice water runs down the shingles and freezes, it dams at the gutter, causing water to back up under the shingles. Check for this problem by looking for any water stains on the ceilings and walls as that is where roof leaks first show up.
The rainy season is almost upon us so if you notice any other exterior damage to the gutters, siding, roof or windows, it is important to address this problem before it can get worse.
